OMGOSH, Mummy and I finished weaving our NANTUCKET BASKET and just in time, because we are leaving our beautiful campsite here in Maine and heading down to New Hampshire for a few days. We are really sad to be saying goodbye to MAINE because all of us have fallen IN LOVE with the people here, and the scenery, and the LOBSTERS, and the BLUEBERRIES too!
It took us several days to get our basket completed, but that included some drying time when it had to be wetted down and then the rim needed to be glued on and that had to dry… but still, it was a race to get it all done before we had to leave. You can see how EXHAUSTED I got. Mummy ended up having to finish the basket without me!!! The KOA campground owner, ms Marlene Greenlaw was soooo nice to teach Mummy how to make these baskets and she and her husband David were such nice hosts. If you are ever near Orland, Maine and need a nice campground to stay… look up the BUCKSPORT/FORT KNOX KOA HOLIDAY here in Orland. It is near lots of lovely little towns and the campground is super nice and quiet. You can be certain that the Greenlaw family will treat you nice, too… and check to see if ms. Marlene is still teaching her basket weaving classes!!! Make sure to tell them that Millie sent you!!! She sells several of her Nantucket items on Etsy under the name “BemelaBaskets” if you are interested in purchasing any. We bought a few for gifts, to get an early start on Christmas shopping. Now… we still need to varnish our basket when we get back home and find a place of honor for it. Mummy said she might put all the money in it that she has made so far from Daddy leaving the cabinet doors open in the AIRSTREAM!!! ??? YES… he is STILL LEAVING THEM OPEN and Mummy has made about $15 so far! ???❤️
